SERVE

Outside the Church

Jesus commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves. We do this by serving from a stance of generous humility and focusing on relationships.

Local Ministries

First Nations Kitchen

Located at All Saint’s Indian Mission in South Minneapolis, First Nations Kitchen provides a Sunday night supper for people in the neighborhood. The goal is to have healthy, organic, food, based on the ancestral diet of the First Nations people. St. John’s volunteers the Second Sunday of each month.

Urban Homeworks

Join us in renovating a new property or revitalizing an apartment between residents. This work can include cleaning, painting, light carpentry, light demolition, landscaping, etc. No experience is necessary, and all tools are provided. St. John’s volunteers the second Saturday of each month.

TRUST

TRUST is a non-profit organization based in South Minneapolis that unites and mobilizes congregations and the community to serve and empower our neighbors. TRUST has 19 congregational partners, of which St. John’s is one, who work in tandem to bring change through community-based programs and initiatives.

Earth Matters

Earth Matters is St. John’s initiative to work against the harmful effects of climate change. It is dedicated to encouraging people to mindfully change how they live, how they pray and how they work for systemic change.

Racial Justice & Healing

After George Floyd was killed three miles from our church, we recognized we couldn’t be faithful followers of Jesus without addressing systemic racism—particularly against African American, Indigenous and immigrant communities.

International Ministries

Haiti Partnership

Through donations from St. John’s parishioners, we have paid teacher salaries at our partner school since 2007. With our help, the school has grown from 120 students, preschool to sixth grade, to nearly 400 students, preschool to tenth grade. Students are able to attend school without paying any tuition.

Guatemala Partnership

Since 2009 St. John’s has made trips to Guatemala to work with the Catholic Mission in San Lucas Toliman and a small village called Nueva Providencia. St. John’s has worked on the water system, the hydroelectric system, installed fuel-efficient stoves, help build an addition to the school, and helped with road construction.
