Day 1

DAY1. So you say there is an election coming up? How does that make you feel? Tired? Perplexed? Hopeful? Disengaged?

St. John’s will offer an eight-week course this fall called DAY1 that should help us reaffirm our life together in community. This love-based discipleship program is designed to help faith communities navigate the trials and tribulations of an election year. DAY1 highlights that being a Christian is more about our personal and collective “why? and “how”, and less about the changes and chances of the trending political climate.

DAY1 offers a way to recalibrate our perspective on the election. The outcome of this election is not the final word on our common work as a faith community. What’s important to us as Christians? What “platform” do we write with our lives as members of the Jesus “Party”? A preferred outcome of the election will not solve all the issues that we care about, like caring for our immigrant families, supporting teachers in Haiti, or growing in our relationship with First Nations Kitchen. Nor will an outcome we don’t prefer give us permission to throw up our hands and walk away from these ministries.

Please join us as we discern together what is important to us as a community and make plans for how these ministries will carry forward through and after the “balloons and confetti drop from the ceiling”. The initial Zoom meeting will be at 7 pm on Monday, September 16.
