First Nations Kitchen Update

By April 20, 2023No Comments

Dear Community of volunteers and friends,

We are thrilled to share some significant FNK updates with you all as the crocuses appear! The All Saints/First Nations Kitchen community happily reports that the walk-in cooler is completely installed and has shelving. We will begin to use it upon the completion of our building permit (having had plumbing and electrical work done) and MN Dept of Health inspections. Thanks to Jay Nord, Shelter Construction, LLC, we are nearing the end of this phase of repairs, building and improvements. Jay’s team is wonderful.

We plan to spend the summer in reflection and discussion about FNK next steps and will update when we are solid on it. Bottom line is that we could not have gotten to this point without you all. We are moved by the gifts of time, talent, and treasure by so many. One neighbor gives $5 when he picks up his meal and bag of produce. Thank you!

We are in need of more cook/chef volunteers and have increased the meat meals to 100-120, maintaining vegan at 50. Cook/chefs are welcomed to form a team. It can be a fun time and we can usually offer to have a FNK person along to guide if it helps. Let us know if you can volunteer in that capacity. We look forward to having one of our legendary 5th Sunday Indian taco dinners on July 30th with the owners of Watecha Bowl coming in from Sioux Falls!

It is amazing to share with you all that for 2023 we have many Sundays covered by partners, much like in the years before COVID. It seems that summer is the biggest challenge. Please find dates and Sign Up Genius links to volunteer for Cooking, Prep/Set Up, and Give Away shifts below. And, can you sign up? Bring your friends and family, or come on your own and make new friends. We would love to fill these dates ahead of time.
