Sustainable Mission Update 2

By October 17, 2024No Comments

On Sunday, October 13, during the community forum time, our Rector Lisa, Michael Morrow, Rena Turnham and other members of the Sustainable Mission Team presented an update on the congregation’s financial projections in the near to mid-term.  The team was happy to report that St. John’s current pledge-related and operating budget condition is solid. Also presented and discussed were four examples as ‘case studies’ of alternative financial models adopted by local congregations, for the sake of generating conversation and imagination during the gathering.  A copy of the PowerPoint presentation may be found here.

In the coming weeks, we will also present information recently gleaned from the Building Reserve Study, which will provide more context for what it will take to care for our building for the long term. Given those costs, which are significant, the Sustainable Mission Team is now in the process of gathering specific information including relative costs etc. related to several options for St. John’s. These options include various iterations of staying where we are and moving to a different location.

Finally, when the Sustainable Mission Team’s work nears conclusion, we will present detailed information, including financial projections, related to the top options we believe are best suited to St. John’s and its mission. The vestry will then lead the congregation through prayerful discernment towards a final decision, listening for where the Spirit is leading us. Questions or concerns may be directed to our Minister for Sustainable Mission, Rena Turnham. Please continue to pray for the team, the vestry, and the Spirit’s guidance during this important time in the life of St. John’s.
