This year the St. Johns/Urban Homeworks Thanksgiving Basket event is like everything else in 2020 – digital. Like many other traditions this year, the selection of just the right family and then generously overfilling a festively decorated laundry basket with household supplies will take a pause. For everyone’s safety, UHW has launched the Urban Homeworks Gratitude Gift Card Campaign. Not as much fun for us, but very much needed by the same families we would have so enjoyed delivering baskets to again this year.
Included in the Campaign is the purchase and distribution of gift cards to each of their 130 households – only this year the UHW staff will shop for the gift cards. In the UHW tradition of shopping locally, the gift cards will be for grocery stores and neighborhood merchants.
UHW has set a Campaign goal of $4000 which would yield $30 gift cards for each household. While I am sure $30 will be greatly appreciated and wisely stretched, it is only a fraction of the value past St. John’s Thanksgiving Baskets. So please, as you are able, imagine you are at Target with your family, everyone piling up laundry detergent, towels, personal hygiene items, kitchen supplies, light bulbs and of course that special extra item that wasn’t on my Suggestion List. Please have that same eager generousness when you click on the link below.
Thank you.
